Welcome to QuittingCigarettes.net!

Please don’t let our name scare you. The thought of quitting can be frightening! After all your cigarette is your best friend and your most reliable relationship! It’s difficult to imagine your life without it. So for now let’s just talk about cutting down, not quitting! OK? First we’re just going to cut down, try to save some money, breathe a little easier, get picked on less by your non-smoker friends…

You are probably here because you or someone you know has a tobacco problem. It’s harming you and whatever has been tried to quit so far hasn’t worked. Most likely you have tried a nicotine product (referred to as an NRT—Nicotine Replacement Therapy) like the vape, the e-cig, nicotine skin patches, nicotine gum, or the inhaler, lozenges or nicotine candies.

You have been told that these products should help you quit smoking because the thing that causes tobacco addiction is nicotine and by replacing the nicotine in tobacco with a nicotine product you’ll be able to quit smoking – but so far it hasn’t worked! Why not? Well the answer is a bit complicated.

The short answer is tobacco addiction is NOT JUST ABOUT addiction to nicotine.

We are not told too much about tobacco other than it contains nicotine – but here is a line from the tobacco entry in the 1922 edition of the American Encyclopedia, Volume 26, page 658: “The narcotic and euphoriant effects of tobacco are caused by nicotine and related alkaloids.” Well, what are those “related alkaloids”? The tobacco companies never mention them. Could one or more of them be contributing to your tobacco addiction? This could explain why nicotine products alone are not very effective in helping you to quit smoking!

If we do an internet search of “tobacco alkaloids” we find mention of the “harmala alkaloids”. The harmala alkaloids include an unusual and interesting type of ANTIDEPRESSANT—Harmane—a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor. It probably has something to do with tobacco’s antidepressant effects. This could explain why you can get really depressed when you try to stop smoking.

QuittingCigarettes.net has identified plants that contain harmala alkaloids and is presenting these products to help you reduce or even stop your use of tobacco. Our products Passion Flower and Lemon Balm tea, cookies, and “cigarette-biscuits”, — do not contain nicotine nevertheless they have helped in reducing and stopping dependence on tobacco.
