Solutions To Child Behavior Problems

One of the hardest jobs you will ever undertake is bringing up children. If they were all the same and came with instructions the job would be a lot easier, but then if all of our children were the same it would be pretty boring too. You are able to solve your child behavior problems in a manner that does not involve smacking or having to get stressed screaming at them. These methods can also be adapted when you are out of your home and will make your life a whole lot easier.

Some children may have been diagnosed or it may be being looked into that they have a certain condition that affects the way they act. Even still there are steps that you can take so that you can get the best possible from your child in terms of behaviour and not dread going out shopping or taking them outside the home.

When a child plays up, if you are to shout at them they will still be receiving attention even though it is not the attention you would deem as good. They are too young to determine what is good and bad when they receive attention from an adult which is why the behaviour continues.

Sometimes, whether through television, older siblings or others outside a child picks up bad language. This can be embarrassing and many people find that by telling young children off they only seem to make the problem worse. It has been shown that the best way is to ignore it as if it is not even a word and only reply to the child when they speak politely. When they are having a tantrum that is so bad they could end up causing injury to themselves or someone else the best thing to do is to hold them to restrain them from doing so, yet not communicate with them. When they are calmer you can let them get down and play again.

Time out has been used effectively for many years, it does not mean that you have to put your child into their room if this is not convenient or they share with siblings. You need only find somewhere such as a step, a rug, a chair or somewhere you know is safe to put them until they are calmer. This method can be used not only in the home but also at the homes of friends and family. The child should be left in time out depends on their age. A child of six will need to be left for six minutes.

If you find that the child keeps moving from the spot you put them in then you will have to return them to the place no matter how many times it takes to get them to stay there. Although this may seem hard at first you will find that it gets easier and will be worth the work.

You can reward good behaviour and the way you should do this is when they abide by rules set in place or from their own initiative they decide to play well with others. They will be pleased that you have taken note of the fact they are behaving well and be more likely to repeat the behaviour.

Another method that is used is sticker charts. They are effective and mean that they do not get rewarded with a gift when they are good, they get a sticker which once collected to a level that is set by you, you will be able to reward them with maybe a family day out, staying up a little later to watch a film or something else they enjoy doing. You do not have to reward them with sweets, children will be just as happy to have your attention and some time with you at the park.

The lessons that your child will learn from your teachings will not only benefit you and your family as you become less stressed both in the home and out of it. You can also be sure that their concentration will be better at school meaning that they will be able to take more in. Routine is also important and also not bending rules all the time as this will cause confusion for them. The lessons you teach them will be something that they will use when they too become parents, although this may seem a long way off you can be sure that it will be useful in years to come.
