Is It True That You Gain Weight Once You Stop Smoking?

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

I have not had a cigarette in 7 days. My intentions are to finally quit for good. I have been eating everything that has not run from me for the last week and can feel my size 7 frame starting to explode.
I can only assume that since I am no longer spending my time smoking that now I am trying to fill that time with eating. Anyone else out there experience this and if so how did you manage these cravings?

How To Quit Smoking Without Gaining Any Weight?

Losing Weight, Quitting Smoking, Going Back To School And Eating Healthier. . .all At The Same Time?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Can setting multiple goals help to motivate when one is successful or achieved? I’m going for an all or nothing kind of deal. I see them as one helps to benefit and motivate the other. Eating healthier leads to more energy for working out which leads to me wanting to stop smoking because of the lack of air, which overall gives me more energy and better health to focus on my school. Do you think I’m taking on to much or does this sound like a plan for success?

Do You Think Its Harder To Lose Weight Or To Stop Smoking?

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

I try to convince my husband to stop smoking because its scares the crap out of me. He’s been smoking since he was 15 and he is now 29. Its going to kill him while he’s still young and that really scares me bad. He wants to quit but I can only imagine how hard it is because I have tried for my entire life to lose these 20 extra pounds to no avail. We are trying the nicotine replacements, but it reminds of diet pills as a quick fix that doesn’t work. Any insight or suggestions would be useful. Thank you.

Alternate Ways To Shed Pounds

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

There are several techniques by which you can lose weight. Some are more mainstream then others such as exercise ; weight loss pills etc . The others use absolutely separate or alternative processes. Strategies like hypnosis, acupuncture and natural herbs- as alternative as they are- may help you in losing weight more effectively and without the danger of side-effects also.

Hypnosis is simply the most under appreciated tactics to lose weight. The process is conducted by a professional hypnotist who gradually calms your mind so that you subconscious takes over. This allows your hypnotist to access your habits related information which can be altered to overwrite the bad eating habits with healthy ones. As the subconscious becomes aware of the change, it makes the active part of the mind change as well. It is like listening to a lot of self esteem CDs over and over again so that you tend to believe that you can do something. A number of trained hypnotists can offer this treatment and it is totally safe as well .

Acupuncture is another alternative way to lose pounds without causing any heavy damage. This is acupuncture being discussed so you’ve got to be prepared to be pricked and punctured by small needles but that is about the only thing you should be worried about. The first approach is to reduce the craving for food. It also helps by raising the final body metabolism as well as by making improvements to the circulatory system. Acupuncturist will research your condition, decide upon the critical pressure points and prick them with little needles to get the results.

Most of the acupuncturists would select your thyroid so as to boot the metabolism, your mouth to control the urge to eat, stomach to at once attack obesity, spleen so that any hormonal imbalance may be fixed and and endocrine to shed the additional water in body.Goes without saying that you should choose a trained consultant to get this treatment.

Common natural herbs that help lose weight include green tea, psyllium, guarana and white willow bark. Green tea helps by skyrocketing metabolism and thermogenesis, normalizing appetite, helping to fasten fat burning and lowering bad cholesterol levels. Psyllium is a natural form of fiber and assists in weight loss by creating a sense of fullness, especially when taken before a meal or with a huge cup of water, to help with assimilation.

Guarana is produced mainly in Brazil and one of its main ingredients is caffeine. Together with other compounds, particularly theobromine and theophylline, the caffeine stimulates the nervous system that suppresses appetite and promotes weight reduction. White willow bark carries anti inflammatory properties and increases norepinephrine levels, which stimulates fat metabolism and leads to weight reduction. Though all these herbs are safe, they need to be taken only after visiting a doctor.

Each of these methods is very effective singly or in combination.

What Are the Best Fitness Machines for Gyms at Home?

Monday, January 18th, 2010

When trying to put together a list of fitness machines for gym at home, it can be a little confusing and intimidating. There are so many things to consider before looking at the first piece of machinery and missing one detail can result in a lot of wasted money. Before you start drooling over that new BowFlex machine, make sure everything else is in line.

The room that is going to be the gym is the first thing that has to be looked at. If you don’t know the space that you have, how can equipment be purchased for it? Imagine spending $10,000 on the best new equipment available only to find out that half of it doesn’t even fit in the room.

Once the space has been established, the budget must be considered. Establishing how much money can be spent on each piece will keep you from spending too much on any one piece resulting in the need to get sub-par equipment for everything else. It is best to sit down and figure out exactly what is going to be allocated and to stick to those numbers.

Health is also something that must be considered. For instance, if you are 300 pounds and trying to get back in shape, the same equipment would not be used for someone that is a trim 180 and only interested in endurance. There are also those that cannot use equipment that will put a lot of strain on their backs. This will further narrow down the choice so of equipment that can be purchased.

The actual workout equipment is usually only one aspect of the items that go into a fitness room. There may also be things like rubber padding or mats, mirrors, water coolers and of course, the flat screen wall mounted TV to watch while you are on the treadmill running to nowhere. You may even want vibration machines for some relaxation. All of these things need to be accounted for and put into the overall budget.

When all of these details are finally ironed out, you can finally start shopping for your fitness equipment. While new equipment is easy to find, getting the best deal is going to take some work. Don’t stop at the first site that you find just because they have what you are looking for. Use sites that offer comparison pricing to make sure that the best deal is the one you choose.

You can also decide to go with used equipment. If you do this, you can often get a better grade of equipment, but there may be some risk involved. Online dealers will also have this, just be sure that they is also something in the purchase agreement that will allow you to inspect the equipment to make sure that it is in good working order before you accept it.

While creating home gyms can be very enjoyable, there are also a lot of pratfalls that must be avoided to make sure that too much money is not being spent. Use the Internet to get the best prices. Just remember, now that you have your own gym, you no longer have any excuses for that spare tire that you have been getting away with carrying around.

How To Go From A Keg Belly To A Six Pack

Monday, December 21st, 2009

I often get asked, “What’s the best way to burn fat and lose my belly?” People want to know if aerobics is better than strength training, or if traditional cardio exercise is better than intervals.

Well, to say I’ve done them all would be an understatement.

I have spent, at least, 15 years of training in the gym, both for myself and sports and used laboratory research showing many exercises. I can tell you now what works best and what you should not spend time on.

Time. Do you have it? For those of you who can’t spend 90 minutes per day exercising I want to talk to you.

That’s why there is a huge disconnect between some of the information found in magazines and the ability of the reader to apply it to their lives.

For someone who is not a triathlete and just wants to tone and lose weight you don’t need to work out 6-8 hours/week.

So, to get a better body, the key is…

Use bodyweight exercises to warm-up, strength training supersets to build muscle, and then finish your workout with interval training to burn fat in a short amount of time. I’ve structured my system so that you are in and out of the gym in 45 minutes, three times per week.

Spend 5 minutes warming up with bodyweight exercise. If you spend 5 minutes on a treadmill it will only prepare you for more time on the treadmill. Using bodyweight will be much more efficient.

The next 20 minutes are going to be spent with strength training supersets. Use two exercises back to back with minimum rest in the middle. For this you will use basic exrcises and depending on your goal for muscle building possibly add more bodyweight exercises.

Finally, 18 minutes of interval training. This will include a warm up, then determined by the client’s fitness level five or six short intervals while switching off with short periods of low intensity recovery.

Most people run, cycle or ride a cardio machine for 45 min. straight which will burn calories. But won’t get you that six pack.

The downside to long cardio includes injuries due to overuse of a muscle and it really is an inefficient way to exercise. If you only have 30-45 minutes to workout, when are you going to work the rest of your muscle groups and get that beautiful body you want if you are on 1 cardio machine for 45 minutes?

So the best way to burn belly fat is with a combination of strength training and interval training. It’s fast, it works, and it’s fun!
